At Strike, we pride ourselves on delivering customised solutions that meet the exact needs of our clients across industries. This case study highlights our collaboration with a leading airline to design and develop bespoke in-flight device cases and storage solutions that enhance operational efficiency and passenger service.
The client required a secure, user-friendly solution for integrating both iPad Mini 6 tablets and Ingenico payment terminals into their in-flight operations. The main challenges were:
Payment Accessibility: Flight attendants required a convenient and customer-friendly method for processing payments during service.
Screen Orientation Concerns: The airline requested multiple prototype options due to visibility concerns about front-facing displays.
In-Flight Storage: Devices had to be safely stowed yet remain easily accessible throughout the flight.
Strike developed two tailored prototypes to address the airline’s requirements:
Rear-Facing Screen Design: A custom case allowing the Ingenico payment terminal to face rearward, improving usability during payment transactions. The screen also featured rotational flexibility for enhanced passenger accessibility.
Alternative Front-Screen Design: To address concerns about outward-facing displays, Strike created a second prototype offering a different configuration while still securely integrating both the iPad Mini 6 and payment terminal.
To complement these solutions, Strike engineered custom in-flight storage brackets made from condensed foam. These ensured the devices were:
Securely docked during flights
Easy to retrieve and return by flight attendants
Durable enough to withstand daily in-flight use
The development process involved:
Needs Analysis: Gathering operational insights from the client on device use, customer interaction, and safety requirements.
Prototyping: Designing and producing two case configurations for evaluation.
Testing: Assessing usability, accessibility, and safety during trial runs.
Finalisation: Incorporating storage solutions alongside the chosen case design.
The custom-designed in-flight cases and storage solutions delivered multiple benefits:
Enhanced Payment Processing: Rear-facing and rotatable screen improved efficiency and customer interaction.
Flexible Options: Dual prototype approach ensured client concerns were addressed with adaptable designs.
Operational Efficiency: Dedicated in-flight storage reduced clutter and enabled faster service workflows.
While designed for aviation, the innovation behind these solutions demonstrates Strike’s ability to develop bespoke protective cases, mounting systems, and storage solutions for industries such as retail, healthcare, and field services.
This project highlights Strike’s commitment to innovation, agility, and collaboration. By addressing a unique aviation challenge, we created a solution that not only streamlined in-flight operations but also reinforced our expertise in delivering tailored device solutions for specialised environments.
