After almost 3 years since the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active took the world by storm, Samsung has finally updated its enterprise-grade device. In its constant endeavour to dominate the enterprise tech industry, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab Active 2 has no doubt upgraded tremendously since its predecessor came out in early 2015.

Features:


- The design of the rugged exterior does not seem to have changed very much. It still has its distinctive rugged exterior.
  • Of course, the rugged design does not protect the device from severe drops, but it does protect it from the usual wear and tear that a normal non-enterprise grade tablet will not withstand.
  • The rubber material also provides a decent grip – perfect for harsh work environments
- The three usual buttons in the Tab Active 2 are further apart from each other.

- Colours: Tab Active 2 comes in black, Tab Active comes in ‘titanium green’.

- Both have an LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16M colours.

- Both screens have 800 x 1280-pixel resolution.

- Both have Wi-Fi wireless internet connection.

    The new Tab Active 2 is a clear winner from the looks of these specs. Whereas the previous Tab Active has poor camera quality, the camera and video functions in the new tablet has obviously upgraded. With the addition of face detection, we are really approaching a new era of technology.



    Processor

      - Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2 runs on 1.6 GHz Exynos 7880 processor.

      - Samsung Galaxy Tab Active runs on 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400.


    Operating System


    The Samsung Tab Active 2 runs Android 7.1.1 (Nougat) operating system – not the latest, but it was only released in August last year (2016) and is still updating. It’s surely an upgrade form the previous version’s Android 4.4.2 KitKat, which no longer updates.



    Memory RAM


    The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2 comes with two RAM options: 3GB or 16GB. You may consider this as an incredibly small about of memory storage capacity. However, the device also has a MicroSD card slot, which allows up to 256GB worth of data, which is a huge improvement from previous Tab Active which only allowed up to 64GB (with only one 16GB option)!

    Whereas the Tab Active was merely water resistant with a IP67 rating, the Tab Active 2 with its IP68 can now be submerged in water for approximately 1.5 metres for around 30 minutes.

    Samsung’s current enterprise-grade device has clearly borrowed from its other flagship devices over the years like the functionalities found in their Samsung Galaxy S8/Note 8 smartphones/phablets.

You won’t need to worry about taking off your gloves to scan your finger or type in a passcode, your device can simply recognise you.
