What Samsung’s New Galaxy Z Fold8 Range Could Mean for Enterprise Mobility

Samsung has introduced its latest foldable smartphone range, including the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8.
Unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked in London on 22 July 2026, the range combines updated foldable designs with larger displays, AI-assisted experiences and new approaches to mobile productivity. The Fold8 Ultra is Samsung’s first Ultra model in the Galaxy Z foldable family and features an 8-inch main display. Samsung is positioning the device around productivity, multitasking and content creation.
While foldable phones are still commonly associated with the premium consumer market, the continued development of the category raises an important question for IT and operations leaders:
Could foldable devices become a practical part of an enterprise mobility strategy?
Businesses have traditionally chosen smartphones when portability is the priority and tablets when employees require a larger workspace.
Foldable devices sit between these categories. They can operate as a conventional phone when closed, then provide more screen space for reviewing documents, managing emails, accessing dashboards or working across applications when opened.
For some employees, this could reduce the need to carry both a smartphone and a small tablet. Executives, consultants, account managers, sales representatives and other mobile professionals may find the larger workspace useful while travelling or moving between meetings.
However, this does not mean foldables will replace conventional smartphones, rugged devices or tablets. Different employees have different operational requirements, and the most innovative device is not automatically the most suitable one.
A foldable smartphone used by an office-based professional will face very different conditions from a device deployed in construction, mining, transport, warehousing or field service.
In more demanding environments, businesses may prioritise drop protection, durability, secure mounting, reliable charging and consistent connectivity. Rugged smartphones and tablets may remain better suited to roles where devices are exposed to impacts, dust, vibration, weather or intensive daily handling.
The latest foldables may be most relevant to roles where portability and screen space are both important, but exposure to harsh conditions is limited.

Larger displays and AI-assisted workflows may create new opportunities for mobile professionals, but organisations still need to assess whether a device is suitable for the environment, applications and support requirements surrounding its use,” says Tim Lynch, Corporate Sales Director at Strike.
Samsung has placed AI at the centre of the new Galaxy Z range. The company says its foldable experiences have been adapted to different screen formats, with features intended to support multitasking, contextual assistance and actions across compatible applications.
For businesses, the significance extends beyond individual features. Smartphones are evolving from devices that simply provide access to applications into tools that can help organise information, recommend actions and assist with parts of a workflow.
This creates potential productivity benefits, but it also introduces considerations around company data, privacy, security, application permissions and the governance of automated actions.
Before adopting AI-enabled devices at scale, IT teams will need to determine which features are appropriate for their organisation and how they fit within existing security, compliance and mobile device management policies.
A successful enterprise mobility program depends on more than the phone or tablet selected.
Businesses also need to consider how devices will be protected, powered, connected, stored, managed and supported throughout their service life.
With foldables, physical design introduces additional considerations because dimensions, screen positions and usage modes change when the device is opened or closed.
Accessory compatibility should therefore be tested rather than assumed. Businesses may need to assess case fit, hinge clearance, charging access, device retention and how employees interact with the device under real working conditions.
The total cost of ownership should also include implementation, accessories, mobile device management, application licensing, employee training, repairs, downtime and replacement cycles.
A controlled pilot can help organisations determine whether a foldable device improves a specific workflow before it is introduced across a wider fleet.
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 range reflects a broader shift in enterprise mobility. Organisations now have more device formats to consider, but no single form factor will suit every employee.
Some workers may benefit from conventional smartphones, while others require rugged handhelds, mounted tablets or foldable devices that provide additional screen space without the need to carry a second device.
The strongest mobility strategies will be built around the employee’s role, working environment and operational requirements, rather than the newest specification or device trend.
