Tougher penalties for Queensland drivers on phone beginning next month
BRISBANE, August 7, 2015 – From September 1, Queensland Police will impose tougher penalties for drivers who will be caught using their mobile phone behind the wheel.
Illegal use of phones whilst driving has become a significant problem for road safety. In a presser last May, Road Minister Mark Bailey clarified that the new law is not about revenue, but rather placing repeat offenders at greater risk of losing their license.
Drivers who are caught using their phones behind the wheel twice in 12 months will lose 9 of their 12 license points. The police have increased the range of their operations for better enforcement of the new penalties.
According to law, drivers may be allowed to use hands-free mobile phone once it is attached to a commercially mounted cradle.
Brisbane based hands-free kit manufacturer Strike Group introduces safest option for drivers who may be required to use their phone whilst driving. Strike CEO Chris Ryan said, “Over the years, we focused ourselves on creating innovative products which will allow drivers to stay legal, safe and connected behind the wheel.”
Strike's CEO Chris Ryan is available for interview upon request.
